NY Times Article. 4-8-12

This is response to the article "The Neuroscience of Your Brain on Fiction"      and this is what I came up with ,

I looked up Academic Success and found out it was the ability to analyze and evaluate information and how we communicate with each other.  Academic Success also included that these people are good at math, science computers or technical skills.  Even in culturally diverse settings they are capable of studying.  To see a project through from start to finish also defines academic success. Prior Knowledge can be explained as knowledge built on top of something we have already learned and are building knowledge about.  Prior knowledge is further knowledge gained by reading or by gaining other knowledge using concepts and context from several types of learning.  Finally Learning Process is the over all method we learn things from.  In general Academic Success is important for several reasons.  One reason is Academic Success strongly links positive outcomes to our kids by showing them how important it is to start something and see it through to the end. This is important for their own development and education.  Another reason is because it is clear that success and education go hand n hand.  Now a days the number of jobs requiring a college education is increasing making higher education a priority for success.
So the question was how does reading play a part in all of this?  well I have never been a very good reader this in turn I haven't exercised my brain as much as I should of.  I use to say reading was boring but I have found it is exactly the opposite.  I find reading is learning.  Read anything!  I watched a movie once where the mentally challenged kid really liked being read to before falling asleep at night.  He was places with a new guardian who found it difficult to find something to read to him.  He had no books of any type in his house so he read the back of ingredients.  like Tabasco.  Anyway YES reading greatly helps anybody at any level to become more successful.
