Kim the Blogging Student

As you may have guessed Blogging this semester was a first for me. I felt like I must of been the only one, NOT TRUE, I found out that several people had never blogged before. I enjoyed it. I think it all worked well for me this semester. A slow start but I ended up picking up the pace. I used this site to write down my thoughts even when it was not required. My Favorite post was the part time Indian where Arnold was slit into to people. I enjoyed feeling so connected with the book. My least Favorite was hummmm...I guess label it this. I think I began building strength after the first few blogs. Do I think Id be blogging again? No probably not because the only reason it worked this time was because of you guys. I had hoped some of you would read what I had wrote. It was creative and fun.

so, am I suppost to create a second entry for my multi media? ok this is the deal... I worked so hard for countless hours (8 or more) I had a power point presentation actually I made 2 of them but after 337 attempts to upload it in EVERY FILE TYPE I was unsuccessful . I didnt know what to do I have a link but even that does not work. Ill provide it and please go to it to see my presentation of 5 flower pictures 5 Photos of Flowers

SWEENEY TODD

Thursday 3, May 2012 EXTRA CREDIT Tonight I took myself to watch Sweeney Todd at the JC. This weekend is the last few days of this performance and I am sure glad I did not miss it. The play begins with the Judge arresting an innocent person for a crime he did not do. The stage was dark, the perfect setting for Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street. The set was in the 1930's in London. The towns people are all working class and after 15 years Todd returns and vows revenge against the judge. Todd's equally as talented counter part was a women who owns a bakery, Mrs. Lovett. She is a meat pie maker and makes the worst tasting pies in London. The musical was a tragic story. The couple killed most of the towns people by way of slashing their throats. Todd is a close shaving killer who uses his blades to kill and refers to them as his arm being complete again. The show was amazing filled with chills, thrills and death. From there it goes into " My Friends." This is where it really started getting good. It became very dark and bitter sweet. Todd is hell-bent on revenge. Love was in the air for the two lovers but is over powered by the stench of blood. The visuals were great. The goth story with their terrific performances made the entire 2 and a half hour show worth watching. I found myself at times at the edge of my seat. The entire cast deserves thanks for a terrific show. I could see that alot of work had gone into the making and planning of this show. Fortunately for me this musical turned out to be charming. The song lyrics were endlessly dreadful. At times the lyrics had a black, piercing poetry to them. Along with the goth like attitudes there was a central tone of humor. For example, the cut throat that was repeated half a dozen times was exaggerated. Revenge has always provoked the worst in our behavior. In this case the revenge was killing everyone in London. The musical touched on every impulse towards evil . The audance found themselves laughing right along with Todd and Lovett as they planned on putting PEOPLE in Mrs. Lovett's pie's.

Movie Review

IRON MAN a 2008 movie staring Robert Downey Jr. HE IS THE MAN! Iron Man is an original Marvel Comic charter and as in the comic Iron Man has super powers. Tony Stark, played by Downey, is a very successful weapons maker and during a sale of a bomb he is kidnapped and held hostage. He is told to make a bomb. Instead he designed a suit capable of flying. After working on it for months Tony faces his attackers suited wearing the Iron Man suit. After defeating the terriosts Tony returns home to the USA. He is recognized as a hero. Downey does an awesome job playing the lead roll in this movie. He has charisma and style. He is funny and sarcastic and has many 1 liners through out the movie. Gwyneth Paltrow who plays Pepper Potts and Tony Starks personal assistant. She too does a great job in this movie. Both have a good scene of humor and it is displayed clearly in the movie. The similar ATTITUDES work well together making this movie a pleasure to watch over and over and over again. The AC DC album is another added bonus to already great movie. I would recommend anybody who has not watched Iron Man to get it tonight.

Part Time Indian Extra Credit

extra credit that is.... neway I wanted to blogg my new knowledge. Rowdy calles Jounior a NOMAD A nomad is a person who wonders from place to place. Someone who moves according to the seasons. Describes Jounior....right? At the very end of the story after a basketball game where Arnold actually beats Rowdy (the toughest kid on the rz)Rowdy refers to Arnold as a nomad. He says most people including himself are not nomatic. It actually refers to old Indians being Nomatic. They move place to place in search of food and shelter and move according to the seasons. Rowdy says Jounior is Nomatic. He says that leaving the rez is what Indians use to do and continue to do, even Jounior. For along time Jounior blamed himself for his sisters death. Growing up he felt like he abandonded her and the family by leaving the Rez and switching schools. He felt guilty and ashamed but by leaving he was no less an Indian. In fact, by leaving he was not abandoning his tribe and he was no less an Indian. If anything he was only doing what other Indians did. It became clear to Rowdy one night in a dream. He saw Jounior living his dreams. In the dream Rowdy saw Jounior standing on the Great Wall Of China. Right at that moment he relised that Jounior was on his way to a better life. A happier life. OMG did that make scense at all? that was tough to describe. oh well I hope U got the message. I did!!!

Michaelangelo's David
Sculpting is considered the finest are form because it mimics  Divine Creation.

From the moment Michelangelo returned from Florence and began sculpting there had been controversy
First to ignite was the 3 years it took to create and finish the sculpture.  Critics doubted the success of the sculpture.  At the unveiling people were shocked over the bold, large sculpture of a naked man.  A writer early on recording measurements of David recorded his height incorrectly.  Davis was a symbol and stood for Courage.  Protector and guardian of the city of Florence.   So life life the marvel statue stood baring the gentiles and pubic hair area.  Some critics over the years have tried to appropriately change the sculpture by placing a fig leaf over the bare area.  They were eventually told to dis-guard the leaf as originated.  Many reproductions of David stand at various locations around the world.  Some where in between David went from contravercy to classic.  You can now find a reproduction of the image censored or uncensored, , or on t-shirts, or in advertising.

“The Comic Book Code”, was very interesting to read.  To my surprise it took me in several directions.  I looked into the matter and this is what I came up with.  The first time I read it I only thought about the Super Hero’s. Comics like Batman.  In this story the main charter is always fighting the bad guy.  He fights the drug dealers and stops prostitution. He is called to defend the city of evil.  I looked up the Captain Marvel.  The first appearance was published by Fawcett Comics (February 1940).  It was 13 years later when Fawcett ceased publishing Captain Marvel related comics.
So at this point I stopped and put myself in that time in history.  I thought about the town size, and the clothes they wore.  I can imagine everybody knew everybody for miles around.  It was common in the 1940’s for Doctors to make home visits if someone was ill.  So I can only imagine the crowd of critics that surrounded the art expressed in any form.  Religious organizations and citizen groups tried demanding a stop to Violence.  They were all for the halting of all comic books.  The critics have referred to the comic story line as cruel. In 1954 a U.S Senate Subcommittee with Juvenile Delinquency held a hearing which demanded certain Authorities to limit the violent theme in any art form. Also that year what is now referred to ass The Code was emplaced and is strictly enforced?  The Code is a list of shall and Shall Not Do’s in the art society.
Every day for years there has been controversy in the world over a number of things.  Controversy is ignited over a countless number of things.  Media is a source of controversy.  Media is the closest resource we have to the “Upper Class”.  Americans throughout time have relied on media to be the truth. We stood by patiently waiting for a command.

Finally, Can violent works of art in any form cause someone to act in a violent way?
I am running out of steam so I asked my 21 year old son Mark Nakamura.  He brought up his little brother.  In a previous example I also used him as an example.  Anyway he answered the question with his little brother in mind.  Mark said, “Yes.  I saw the different it made in my little brother.  I noticed his behavior become more violent.  His imagination was vivid and of death and dying.  He was interested in Death and how it happened.  My little brother was far too young to be knowledge in gun’s and shootings.  He should not be hip to the language they use in Prison.”
Over the last few weeks my teacher has inspired me.  It is not her teaching, exactly, it is the work she puts into teaching and learning for herself and shares with her class. I appreciate her for her outlined work schedule and accept the challenge to see it through.  I may not be good enough.  Just know I tried.  here it is  my blog  my extra credit it is my 10 points response and my other miss un counted 25 points for responding to other classmates blog.  Yes mam I did do it.  Please add up my points.  This repusents my hard work and research inspired by my English 100 Professor

Hate Violence response

Are Americans afraid to leave their homes because of all the violence the media reports?

It IS true that most of the time when you turn on the telivision the first thing you see is vioence.  Either you watch it or hear about it all day long.  The evening news is filled with awful events that destroy peoples personal lives.  OUCH  that kind of stung.  Its true we live in a violent world.  So why blame media for what ultimately  is our desision.  I enjoyed the reading , "Hate Violence, Turn It Off" written by Tim Goodman Pg 167.  The author says, " Don't like it? Don't watch it."  I strongly agree with that statement.

I'll tell you what I do no to be true about violent video games.  I have 2 son's now my youngest is 14.  At 8 years old He knew things that I had no idea if were true or not.  Because of video games he knew all the Gun's, their make their model what they do and what they were capable of.  He knew what a AK47 was.  Besides that he knew the rest of the collection too.  I was shocked.

Are you wondering if I still let him play violent video games or not? I did.  Chock it up to something gained.

NY Times Article. 4-8-12

This is response to the article "The Neuroscience of Your Brain on Fiction"      and this is what I came up with ,

I looked up Academic Success and found out it was the ability to analyze and evaluate information and how we communicate with each other.  Academic Success also included that these people are good at math, science computers or technical skills.  Even in culturally diverse settings they are capable of studying.  To see a project through from start to finish also defines academic success. Prior Knowledge can be explained as knowledge built on top of something we have already learned and are building knowledge about.  Prior knowledge is further knowledge gained by reading or by gaining other knowledge using concepts and context from several types of learning.  Finally Learning Process is the over all method we learn things from.  In general Academic Success is important for several reasons.  One reason is Academic Success strongly links positive outcomes to our kids by showing them how important it is to start something and see it through to the end. This is important for their own development and education.  Another reason is because it is clear that success and education go hand n hand.  Now a days the number of jobs requiring a college education is increasing making higher education a priority for success.
So the question was how does reading play a part in all of this?  well I have never been a very good reader this in turn I haven't exercised my brain as much as I should of.  I use to say reading was boring but I have found it is exactly the opposite.  I find reading is learning.  Read anything!  I watched a movie once where the mentally challenged kid really liked being read to before falling asleep at night.  He was places with a new guardian who found it difficult to find something to read to him.  He had no books of any type in his house so he read the back of ingredients.  like Tabasco.  Anyway YES reading greatly helps anybody at any level to become more successful.

PBS CULTURE SHOCK

PBS Culture Shock Part 1 The question was about video game violence. I was asked to look at a picture and was to decide Whether or not I FELT it was a suitable picture for the cover of the game. I am working on this alone. IDK when the teacher said to pair up, I had no one to pair with so I go at this alone. It was not hard for me to decide whether or not the ad should be on the cover of the video game. I chose YES. Next the Computer tried to persuade me to change my mind by saying that what if the players of the video game were numb to the reality of real violence and real pain. I still chose yes.
Picture still by Oni, http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/cultureshock/provocations/videogames/index.html I did not find the picture offensive but I can see how certain other people could be intimidated by the Picture. The picture was of destruction and fire. I do believe that art, even violent video game art is Still art. You must be creative and must hold a little bit of talent otherwise it would be like me trying to Publish one of my (Ugly) drawings. Not gonna happen. I am unsure of my ability to produce quality Pictures and surly not going to ask that an ugly drawing be published. Video games are KNOWN for being explicit, offensive, and violent. It is that very quality that Determines whether or not it is a top seller. I suppose if the picture on the cover looks interesting enough, despite whether or not someone has herd of the game, it would sell. The entire video game Experience is to allow the players to play the game and roll play. There are upgrades and modifications That pull the player in to the game a little at a time until, one day, he is addicted to the game. This is my personal experience and thoughts about video games. I have 2 sons. The oldest was not Into video games but my youngest, who is now 15, has been INTO these violent video games since he was 6,7,8 years old. I remember the first time my little boy had a conversation about assault riffles. He knew all makes and all models of all guns. I was shocked. I was impressed but had no idea how he had become such an expert at 7 years old. The answer was VIDEO GAMES. My son knew every style and type of gun because in the video game, players get to choose their weapons.

LABEL IT NETHING U WANT , ITS ALL THE SAME

The Absolute True Diary of a Parft-time Indian. Week 9 so Jounior is falling for a girl in school. A White girl. He thinks about her all the time and thinks about how beautiful she is to him. He see s her as perfect. Perfect Penelope. She is smart, popular, beautiful and White. He wonders what a girl like her would see in a guy like him. So beautiful on the outside yet on the inside she is suffering through life just the same as Jounior is. (O man can I relate) Being pretty is not always good. In some ways being beautiful hurts. It is easy to forget that despite what you may see simply by looking at someone they may be filled with so much hurt too. Just because someone LOOKS GOOOD doesnt mean they feel good. Rowdy gives jounior advise about love. Jounior is falling for Panelope. He watches her play vollyball, he admires the color of her skin. He thinks she is sexy and notices the outline of her body inside the bra and panties. He loves her blue eyes. He thinks she is the most beautiful girl in school. Everyone thinks because she is popular that she lives such a good life. What people see couldnt be farther from the truth. Inside Penelope is sad. Her father is controlling and is a White raciest. Hanging out with an Indian would surely upset her dad. Jounior and Penelopie started being friends. He finally got the chance to say something to her after hearing her BARFF in the girls bathroom when she didnt think anyone was lisening. He was, he herd the whole thing. Right at that moment he relises that beauty is only skin deep. Inside Penelope suffers too. She dreams of the day she leaves home. To Jouniors surprise they shared the same dream. Jounior has a hard time dealing with is emotions. He misses his best friend rowdy so he sends an email. Rowdy responds quickly. "sick of Indian guys who treat white women like bowling trophies" Then he tells Jounior to "Get a life" so Jounior moves on and seeks advise from another friend, Gordy. Jounior asks the question, "Im an Indian boy... how can I get a White girl to love me?" he asks Gordy. Gordy had to think about that one for awhile then responds with, "People care more about beautiful White girls than they do about everybody else on the planet." basicly calling Jounior a raciest, just like everyone else. Jr and Penelopie keep getting closer, becoming better friends. She has no idea how POOR he and his family are. He hides it from everybody. He doesnt admitt that sometimes his father gets too drunk and is unable to p[ick Jounior up from school. Sometimes he walks. Eventually she catches on and questions him about being poor. She is his friend so he honestly answers her. He relises, "if you let people into your life a little bit, they can be pretty damn amazing"

MEASURING UP

So Hello  everyone.  This blog will be on the cartoon I picked from the book "The absoluter true story of a part-time Indian"  There was A cartoon "Jr" had drawn of himself half Indian and half White.  It immediatly got my attention and I instantly wanted to draw my own using the titles Good and Bad.  I did exactly that listing my good qualities on one side and what I didnt like about myself on the other side.  Boy was that something.  I was shocked.  I had no problem listing all the bad things but on the good side I had a hard time finding 10 things I was good at or really liked about myself.  (SAD HUGH)  I then thought I could use almost any headings and it would work the same.  I can totally relate to what the author was trying to say about himself through this cartoon.  He felt the Indian side of him was the poor side limiting the nice quality of things he had and the White side  being the side he thought was a richer , better quality side.  That is very common of all of us.  I know for myself that even at my WORST, I mean  I could be SICK nearly dying and everytime someone will say "oh yeah? your sick? well you look good ."  MAKES ME WANNA SCREAM.  In conclusion how we appear to someone may not be how we feel about ourselves.
well everyone  thats it from my peanut gallery.  See you in class next week.

ADVERTISE THIS

I hope this is alright.
ADs
The first ad I looked at was Dolce & Gabbana  I had no idea who they were and what if anything they sold.  My first thoughts after looking at it for awile I thought " of course" The ad s picture is of  a lady, probley someones wife, washing the  dish s while her lazy husband is yelling something from another room.  and thats exactly what I thought.  funny cuz I just answered the first couple questions at the end of the ad.
question #2  do the elements connect to the product?   WHAT IS THE PRODUCT?????  so no they do not connect
#4 would I know what this ad is selling.  No and still NO
#5If I saw this in a magizine  I would probley glance at it but it does not repersent anything I like.  I hate cooking  I hate doing dish s.   and if this ad appeared in a magizine I was reading it would be in DUMPY HOUSE WIVES.

THe next page
wow whats that?? nakedness...wow nice belly chain., O WAIT it a visa ad.  LAME
ya no  If this ad were to be in a magizine id be reading  HUSTLER or PLAYBOY or something along those lines.
good thing I reconized the VISA card  carfully placed in the zipper of her jeans.  Looks like visa targets only men.  eeeewww actually it makers me not like visa  maybe I should get rid of my card.   Probley not, I paid good money for MY card.  So I took a note reminding me to tell u all that at first glance I looked at her tattoo  and didnt even notice the visa card.  somehow that was important enough for me to jot down.  NEWAY   there it is...my blog about the ad s on page 135 and 136 of our text book.

Together we can make a diffrence.

This is my very first blog.  I am new to this feature so bare with me.  I brought in an advertisement called "Share in a special wish of hope."  It is a super cute , handcrafted fairy designed with lots of fairy dust which is pretty pink glitter.  The pink represents breast cancer.  It also represents HOPE.  Hope for a cure.  About a year ago my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She was scared.  Shortly after finding the cancer the doctors planed on surgery.  Surgery went very well and the cancer was removed.

My mom was into supporting finding a cure.  She bought things with pink ribbons to show her support.  This fairy is her birthday gift this year.  I still support the cause.
